REALTOR vs. Real Estate Agent
A REALTOR® is a professional who holds a current real estate license and who is also a member of the local, state and National Association of REALTORS®. This membership is what makes a REALTOR® different from a general real estate agent. In addition to observing the Real Estate Commission laws, REALTORS® are required to adhere to a strict Code of Ethics that is enforceable through the state Association. Homebuyers and sellers can only benefit from the increased professionalism and integrity encouraged through this code.
REALTORS® have access to a national resource of information and knowledge that promotes further education and professionalism. REALTORS® are also up-to-date and involved with local legislation including community ordinances. So when hiring someone to represent you in the home buying or selling process, be sure to ask if they are a REALTOR®, a member of the National Association of REALTORS®.
