About REALTORS®
Do You Need a REALTOR?
A REALTOR®, simply by definition, is professional that holds a current real estate license and who is a member of the local, state and National Association of REALTORS®. This membership is what makes a REALTOR® different from a general real estate agent.
Why is using a REALTOR® so important?
In addition to the Real Estate Commission laws, REALTORS® are required to adhere to a strict code of ethics that is enforceable through the state Association. Homebuyers and sellers can only benefit from the increased professionalism and integrity encouraged through this code.
One of the most prevalent benefits of using a REALTOR® is their ability to access the local Multiple Listing Service, or MLS. The MLS is essentially a database of all the properties being listed by REALTORS®. The MLS is the most complete source of homes in the area and has on average over 6,000 homes listed.
In addition, REALTORs® have access to a national resource of information and knowledge that promotes further education and professionalism. REALTORS® have the ability to use standard contracts and forms written in part by real estate attorneys. REALTORS® are also up-to-date and involved with local legislation including community ordinances.
When choosing a REALTOR® that can best work with you, It’s helpful to understand some of the designations that one might hold. If you see these designations following his/her name, this is what they mean:
